Flying in from Alaska

Home airport

To Boise (BOI)
4.5 hrs
Routing
Seasonal nonstop
Travel + lodging
Up to 10%

From Ted Stevens Anchorage International (ANC) you'll reach Boise Air Terminal (BOI) in about 4.5 hours nonstop when the seasonal route is running: Alaska Airlines flies it Wednesdays and Sundays from mid-June through mid-August. Outside that window it's one stop through Seattle, roughly 7 hours door to gate. Either way we book the flight and arrange your airport transfer, and your travel and lodging at the Inn at 500 are covered up to 10% of your case fee.

How the travel benefit works

Travel and accommodation are included up to 10% of your total case fee. On the Medium package ($11,000) that is about $1,100 toward flights and lodging. Anything above that is your responsibility, and we tell you the number before you commit, not after.

Prefer to arrange your own travel? Take the 10% reduction on the case price instead: $11,000 becomes $9,900. Either way the benefit is worth the same, so pick whichever suits you.

Recovery notes for Alaska patients

Alaska recovery has two distinct problems depending on when you travel. In winter, the issue is not the cold outside so much as the dry indoor heat you come home to: forced-air heating pulls moisture out of a healing scalp and leaves the recipient area tight and flaking. We send Alaska patients home with humidifier guidance and a loose, non-friction head covering, because a snug beanie pulled over fresh grafts in a Fairbanks January does more damage than the temperature itself. In summer, the problem inverts. Long daylight and heavy outdoor activity mean far more sun on the scalp than most people expect, and the recipient area burns easily for the first few weeks. Either way the flight home matters more for Alaskans than for most patients, because it is the longest leg any of our patients fly. Cabin air is extremely dry, so we brief you on keeping the area protected and hydrated in the air, and we schedule your departure so you are not flying the same day as your procedure.

Alaska hair transplant FAQ

Is there a hair transplant surgeon in Alaska?

Alaska has very limited local options for dedicated FUE hair restoration. If you search "hair transplant Anchorage," most of what comes back is not local at all: it is clinics in Texas, Florida, and other Lower 48 states running Alaska landing pages and marketing fly-in services. There is no established roster of on-site FUE surgeons in the state the way there is in a large metro. That is why the real question for most Alaskan men is not whether to travel, but how far.

How long is the flight from Anchorage to Boise?

Alaska Airlines runs a seasonal nonstop between Anchorage (ANC) and Boise (BOI) at roughly four and a half hours, operating Wednesdays and Sundays from mid-June through mid-August. Outside that summer window you connect once through Seattle, which puts the total closer to seven hours door to gate. Either routing is dramatically shorter than flying to the Texas or Florida clinics that advertise to Alaska.

Why travel to Boise instead of a clinic in Texas or Florida?

Distance and continuity. The Lower 48 fly-in clinics that market to Alaska are typically a full travel day away with two connections, and a long recovery flight home is the least comfortable part of the process. Boise is one flight in summer and one stop the rest of the year. Mountain Man is also a men's FUE-only practice, so you are seeing the same provider before and after rather than a high-volume operation you will never visit again.

What does a hair transplant cost for Alaska patients?

Pricing is flat and set by case size, not billed per hour or per session. A typical 1,800-graft case falls in the Medium package at a flat $11,000, and packages run from $8,000 for smaller hairline and crown work up to $14,000 for extensive restoration. Travel and accommodation are included up to 10% of your case fee, which is about $1,100 on a Medium case. You get the full number at your free virtual consult before committing to anything.

Is my travel from Alaska actually covered?

Partly, and we would rather be precise than oversell it. Travel and accommodation are included up to 10% of your total case fee. On an $11,000 Medium case that is roughly $1,100 toward your flight and your stay. Anything beyond that is your responsibility, and because Alaska is our longest route, it is the market where that ceiling matters most. If you would rather book your own flights, you can take a 10% reduction on the case price instead.

How many days do I need to be away from Alaska?

Plan on two to three nights in Boise. That covers your procedure day and an initial check the following morning, and you are typically cleared to fly home after that check. Alaskan patients often add a day of buffer because of the connection schedule, particularly outside the summer nonstop window. We build the itinerary around the flight options rather than asking you to work around ours.

Can I fly home to Alaska right after the procedure?

Not the same day. We schedule departure for after your post-procedure check, which is usually the morning following placement. The flight itself is not a problem for healing grafts, but cabin air is very dry and a long leg is harder on a fresh recipient area than a short one. You get specific guidance on what to wear, how to sit, and how to handle the donor and recipient areas in the air.

What if I live outside Anchorage, in Fairbanks, Juneau, or the Mat-Su Valley?

Most patients from the Mat-Su Valley drive into Anchorage, since Wasilla and Palmer are inside about an hour of the airport. Fairbanks and Juneau patients route through Anchorage or Seattle depending on the season and what is running. We book the itinerary either way, and follow-up is handled by video so you are not flying back for a routine check.

Should I schedule in summer or winter?

Summer is simpler to travel: the nonstop runs mid-June through mid-August and turns the trip into a single flight each way. Winter is easier on recovery, because there is far less sun exposure on the scalp during the weeks when the recipient area is most sensitive, and Boise winter air is dry but mild compared to Interior Alaska. Neither is wrong. If you care most about the travel day, come in summer. If you care most about an easy first month, winter is the better window.

What is FUE and how is it different from FUT?

Follicular Unit Extraction removes individual follicular units from the donor area at the back and sides of the head and places them one at a time. FUT, the older strip method, removes a band of scalp and leaves a linear scar across the donor area. FUE leaves no linear scar, which is what lets you wear your hair short afterward. Mountain Man performs manual FUE only.
